On 17 November 2016 the UNBA celebrated its 4th anniversary
17 November 2016 marked the fourth year of creation of the Ukrainian National Bar Association.
Mrs Lydia Izovitova, the UNBA/BCU President, welcomed the legal community on this occasion during the BCU meeting.
"Since the adoption of the first Law "On the Bar and Practice of Law" in 1992, since the adoption of recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 1995, the advocates’ community struggled for guarantees of the independent status of the profession as a reliable protector from pressure and interference of the State bodies, and for possibilities of smooth implementation of its constitutional role of protection of human rights. This objective to consolidate the bar was transformed into the creation of a unified professional organization that brings together all of the advocates of Ukraine. We will keep on working together in order to strengthen the status of the profession and to raise its standards", - assured Mrs President.
According to Mrs Izovitova, the advocates’ community has significantly increased in number since 2012. At present, the URAU includes more than 34,000 advocates. Besides, during the four-year period 980 experts have been certified by the UNBA; 81 training program and 26 training providers have been accredited by the UNBA; more than 29,000 advocates have been trained at the UNBA trainings as part of advocates’ continuous legal training; the higher and regional bar self-government bodies have been created; the BCU has held 26 meetings, at which 832 decisions have been adopted.
"I believe these figures speak for themselves. A single balanced system of the bar self-government has been created. We were the first who started this way and there is no better evidence of our success as such real results", - said the UNBA President.
"I will not conceal: there are no perfect organizations, and we are no exception to this rule. When certain problems are solved, new challenges emerge. But there are efficient and inefficient organizations. And the fact that we have the tools for solving our issues within the statutory powers indicates that we are an effective and stable organization", - said Lydia Izovitova.
