Opening of the Faculty of advocacy at the Yaroslav the Wise University
At the initiative of the UNBA and, personally, its President Lydia Izovitova, a Faculty of Advocacy was opened at the Yaroslav the Wise National Law University.
On 17 February 2017 Mrs Izovitova sent a letter to Mr Vasyl Tatsiy, Rector of the University, with the proposal to open a faculty of advocacy at the university, which is one of the best law schools in Ukraine. The first admission of students will take place in 2017 at the educational levels of "Bachelor" and "Master".
In her letter, the UNBA President stated that the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in part of securing advocates’ “monopoly” in Article 131-2, i.e. advocates’ exclusive right to represent persons in courts and to defend them from criminal prosecution, had led to the State’s need for training highly educated and highly qualified legal professionals with modern opinions, knowledge, skills, abilities and new promising creative thinking, who will be able to become worthy representatives of the Ukrainian bar at national and international levels.
It is envisaged that educational curricula of the faculty will be devoted to in-depth study of courses related to the organization of advocates’ work, relations with public authorities, courts and law-enforcement authorities, and advocate’s participation in criminal, civil, administrative and commercial proceedings.
In addition, it is also planned that the future students will have a practical training at the UNBA and the Kharkiv or other regional bar councils. Education will be provided by, among others, practicing advocates in the form of open master classes. The cooperation between the University and the UNBA also envisages opening of a cabinet of history of the bar of the Kharkiv region, introduction of a course on the history of the bar, conduct of annual conferences, publication of academic papers, etc.
The opening of the Faculty of Advocacy in Kharkiv has been a landmark event. For its part, the UNBA will in every way contribute to a conduct of relevant events, launching of new courses and, more generally, to the development of the faculty.Popular news
