During the 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UNBA delegation presented the key types of violations of advocates' rights in Ukraine, giving concrete examples.

This was reported by a member of the Committee on protection of advocates' rights at UNBA Yurii Grygorenko, commenting on the visit of the UNBA delegation to Switzerland on June 26-27.

"The Ukrainian delegation was the most convincing because it was the only one among the participants to prepare visual presentations on the violation of advocates' professional rights and professional guarantees. The audience was amazed, because before that in the offices of the United Nations the question of encroaching on the independence of the legal profession in Ukraine has not been discussed so far”, - said  Yurii Grygorenko, who was one of the speakers at a special session on the situation with advocates' rights in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

According to the results of participation of delegation representing the Ukrainian Bar, there was reached an agreement on deepening cooperation with the UN Human Rights Council and its subordinate institutions in the field of protection of independence of the legal profession, as well as study of the situation regarding violation of advocates' professional rights. In relation to this there was discussed readiness to send to Ukraine a special UN reporter on the issues of independence of judges and advocates.

"Of course, this is a new page and a new direction in the protection of advocates' rights and guarantees. This is the case when the UNBA in addition to procedural and informational measures also has an opportunity to use international legal and diplomatic ones to influence the Executive power in Ukraine", - stated Yurii Grygorenko.
