|
Law Societies of England and Wales, British Embassy in Ukraine, Ukrainian National Bar Association and the British-Ukrainian Law Association conducted "English Law Day Forum in Kyiv". The Ukrainian and British legal professional societies were represented both by the national associations and leading law firms. The UNBA was represented at the event by the UNBA Deputy President Valentyn Gvozdiy and Head of the UNBA International Relations Committee Ivan Grechkivskyy. Welcoming the participants of the forum, the British Ambassador to Ukraine Judith Gough focused on the fact that economic relations between the two countries are important, but for them to develop investors have to be confident in the inviolability of the rule of law. "The joint event held by the Ukrainian and British partners – Law Societies of England and Wales, British Embassy in Ukraine, Ukrainian National Bar Association and the British-Ukrainian Law Association – demonstrates that it is not only sharing of experiences in the bar self-governance and study of standards of the profession which are interesting to lawyers of the two countries. Such contacts are also interesting at the level of legal business. And this is the evidence of a real ground for synergy and expansion of interaction", - said Mr Gvozdiy. The program of the event included the following issues discussed by the leading English and Ukrainian experts: private property: protecting assets with the use of offshore jurisdictions and English law; M&A transactions - application of English law and involvement of the Ukrainian party to such transactions; dispute resolution: international arbitration and national courts; dispute resolution: asset tracking. |
