The working group on amendments to the Rules of Advocates’ Professional Conduct will continue its work — BCU’s decision |
|
During the meeting of the Bar Council of Ukraine the UNBA/BCU Deputy President Valentyn Hvozdii has presented the draft amendments to the Rules of Advocates’ Professional Conduct. The document was developed by the working group led by him. The Chairman of HQDBC Oleksandr Drozdov, Heads of the UNBA’s committees and advocates sent their own proposals to the text of the document. The draft amendments provide for a number of drafting changes related in particular to the fact that by the constitutional amendments of 2016 the concept of “professional legal aid” was introduced. It is planned to introduce a separate chapter regulating the ethical rules of advocates’ communication in the social networks and on the Internet in general. According to Valentyn Hvozdii, these new rules for Ukrainian advocates are based on the international practice, namely, the standards of the International Bar Association (IBA). In general, the proposed amendments provide for further harmonization of the Rules of Advocates’ Professional Conduct with the requirements of international professional organizations having their own codes of ethics. In his proposal the Head of Committee on Legal Aid Serhii Vylkov suggests to improve the Rules as regards the professional activities of the advocates, cooperating with the centres for legal aid. It is planned to adopt the amendments to the Rules of Advocates’ Professional Conduct at the Reporting and Election Congress of the Advocates to be held on June 9-10. By the decision of BCU, the working group will continue its work. All proposals related to the amendments to the Rules of Advocates’ Professional Conduct can be forwarded to UNBA at info@unba.org.ua. |
