URAU will be upgraded with new services for advocates |
|
In the next two months the Unified Register of Advocates of Ukraine will be upgraded with new services for advocates, which will facilitate the relationships between the advocates and bar self-government bodies. This was announced during the speech of UNBA/BCU Deputy President Valentyn Hvozdii at the meeting of the Bar Council of Ukraine. In particular, it is planned to launch an “advocate’s area” linked to the URAU data. Specifically, the said area will provide opportunity to get some services such as online registration for trainings. During registration the e-ticket will be given to replace the traditional registration on paper lists. In addition, the reports on passing the advanced professional training will be also presented electronically and will be available for review by regional bar councils. Furthermore, all advocates, who do not fulfill the requirements related to the advanced professional training according to the Law and Regulation, will be marked in red in the URAU. The profile of each advocate in the URAU will be possible to update with the detailed information about the advocate – from photo to a more detailed description of their practice, law firm or association they work for, etc. According to Valentyn Hvozdii, with the replacement of service company that provided technical support for URAU the costs were reduced by 30%. The released funds will be used to further improve the Register. With the advanced technical capabilities of the Register the data is already available for more detailed analysis, which has been described in the UNBA Annual Report for 2016. As of May 23, 2017 a total of 28 047 advocates with valid certificates to practice law are registered in the URAU. The total number of advocates in the Register reaches 36 thousand. These figures demonstrate that 37% of advocates have not paid their advocate’s fees. “This does not mean that actually practicing advocates haven’t paid their fees, since it is the percentage we will obtain, if the total number of advocates in URAU is considered to be 100%. However, there is Crimea, where nearly a thousand people registered in the Register of Advocates of the ARC don’t pay their fees; and there are Luhansk and Donetsk regions having preferential conditions for fees payment under BCU’s decision due to the temporary occupation of the said territories. Therefore, these 37% do not mean that someone badly organizes the work in regions or that the advocates are not conscientious”, - noted Valentyn Hvozdii. |
