Ukrainian advocates join efforts to develop AI ethics standards

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing legal practice. At the same time, without clear ethical principles for its use, there are growing risks related to the protection of human rights and the professional responsibility of those who use the latest technologies in their work.

The Ukrainian National Bar Association and the AI Ethics and Integrity International Association (AIEI) have signed a memorandum of understanding. The document confirms the parties' intentions to develop long-term cooperation with the aim of forming global standards for the ethical use of AI and involving Ukrainian advocates in these processes.

According to the memorandum, the parties will focus on supporting advocates in acquiring knowledge about the ethics of AI use and the effective implementation of relevant tools in their professional activities. In particular, it is planned to hold joint educational and practical events, prepare analytical materials and publications, and organize conferences and thematic panels.

Separately, the Ukrainian legal community will be represented in specialized AIEI committees. The UNBA will have a guaranteed seat on the association's legal committee, which will allow Ukrainian legal approaches to be taken into account when developing ethical principles and regulating AI at the international level.

«Artificial intelligence has already become a powerful tool in the work of an advocate — from searching for information to preparing analytical materials. But the use of the latest technologies requires clear ethical guidelines and a high level of responsibility, - said Valentin Gvozdiy, the Vice President of the UNBA, BCU. - Therefore, our cooperation with the AIEI will not only provide Ukrainian advocates with access to the best international practices, but also ensure active participation in the formation of rules that will protect human rights and high standards of the profession».

The document also provides for mutual information exchange on events and opportunities for members of both organizations, including participation in joint programs and preferential membership conditions.

AIEI is an international organization that brings together experts, scholars, and practitioners from various fields to develop ethical standards and policies in the field of artificial intelligence. The association promotes research, knowledge sharing, and the formation of global initiatives to ensure the responsible and transparent use of AI technologies.
