In Edinburgh discussions focused on support for Ukrainians and academic cooperation

For Ukrainians in Scotland, the need for legal support has long gone beyond everyday advice: it involves both understanding local regulations and receiving professional assistance in more complex situations. This was the focus of a working meeting held at the Consulate of Ukraine in Edinburgh.

Recently, a meeting took place at the Consulate of Ukraine between Ukrainian Consul Andriy Madzianovsky and the official representative of the Ukrainian National Bar Association in Scotland Oleksandr Chernykh.

The discussion centered on providing systematic support to Ukrainian citizens residing in Scotland. In particular, they discussed raising Ukrainians’ legal awareness regarding the specifics of local legislation, as well as opportunities to provide professional legal assistance to those who need to protect their rights. They also discussed situations in which such assistance may be particularly needed, including in the context of criminal proceedings.

«This meeting highlighted an important direction for the work of Ukrainian institutions abroad: consular support is increasingly being combined with the involvement of the professional community, - O. Chernykh commented on the meeting. - For citizens, this means not only access to official information but also the opportunity to receive clear guidance on legal issues that arise in the host country».

A separate segment of the discussion focused on scientific and educational cooperation. The parties outlined prospects for collaboration between universities in Scotland and Ukraine. This includes a potential exchange of expertise in the legal and technical fields, as well as the development of contacts that could be beneficial for the Ukrainian academic community in the international arena.
