The Bar Council of Ukraine is beginning its regular meeting

Today, May 1, a two-day meeting of the Bar Council of Ukraine begins in the town of Sataniv, Khmelnytskyi region. The agenda includes issues related to the activities of bar self-governing bodies, cooperation with government authorities, and providing clarifications in response to inquiries.

In particular, members of the BCU will review the results of the Working Group on the implementation of the Roadmap on the Rule of Law regarding the reform of the legal profession, as well as evaluate the draft Anti-Corruption Strategy of the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) for 2026–2030 as it pertains to the legal profession and legal aid.

The BCU also plans to review draft amendments to a number of regulations, including the Regulations of the Regional Bar Qualification and Disciplinary Commission, the Regulations of the Higher Bar Qualification and Disciplinary Commission, the Procedure for Maintaining the Unified Register of Advocates of Ukraine, the Procedure for Professional Development of Advocates of Ukraine and the Regulations on Contributions to Ensure the Implementation of Bar Self-Governance.

The draft agenda also includes the issue of developing and approving professional standards.

The clarifications regarding inquiries concern, in particular, the compatibility of legal practice with obtaining the qualification of a forensic expert, the interpretation of provisions of the Rules of professional conduct for advocates, the rules for filling out an order for the provision of legal aid, the legal status of a law firm in the event of the death of its sole founding advocate, as well as the representation of a client who has gone missing.
