The UNBA Board of Trustees expressed its support for the family of an advocate, who was killed in the Kharkiv region

print version

The family of an advocate from Ternopil, who died defending Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, will receive financial assistance from the UNBA Board of Trustees. This decision was made during a regular meeting.

Members of the Board of Trustees first considered a request to support the family of their fallen colleague. As a sign of respect for his heroism and to support his loved ones, a decision was made to provide financial assistance.

Four other advocates who find themselves in difficult life circumstances due to the war will also receive assistance.

In particular, support was provided to an elderly advocate from Kherson who requires treatment for a hip joint condition but is unable to pay for it on her own.

Charitable assistance was also directed to an advocate from Kherson whose apartment was completely destroyed as a result of enemy shelling.

The members of the Board of Trustees decided to provide funds for medical care to two other colleagues: an advocate undergoing treatment for cancer after being forced to relocate from Sloviansk to the Kyiv region, and a female advocate from Vinnytsia who requires further treatment and rehabilitation following a leg amputation.

In total, seven applications were reviewed during the meeting. Decisions to deny were made regarding two of the applications.

The Board of Trustees continues to review each application individually, directing charitable assistance first and foremost to those advocates and their families who need it most due to the consequences of the war, the loss of loved ones, serious illnesses, or the destruction of their homes. After all, behind every application lies a human story, and mutual support is one of the most important values of the legal community.

As a reminder, the Board of Trustees makes decisions on providing assistance based on specific criteria, allocating aid in first, second, and third priority categories.

Charitable assistance is provided primarily to:

  • advocates and/or their family members who have died as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine since February 24, 2022;
  • advocates and/or their family members who have suffered serious bodily injuries as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine since February 24, 2022;
  • advocates and/or their family members who have completely lost their homes, which served as their permanent residence as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine since February 24, 2022, in cases where it is impossible to continue living there due to significant damage and the lack of other suitable housing;
  • single advocates over the age of 70 who are unable to evacuate or who have been evacuated but lack the means to support themselves.

Secondarily, charitable assistance is provided to:

  • advocates and/or their family members whose homes have been partially destroyed as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine beginning on February 24, 2022, and require restoration to make them habitable again;
  • advocates and/or their family members who have sustained moderate bodily injuries as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine since February 24, 2022;
  • advocates who are single parents and lack the means to support themselves due to the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine on or after February 24, 2022, and who have no income.

Third, charitable assistance is provided to advocates and their children who require ongoing treatment with essential medications and lack the means to purchase them.

To receive charitable assistance, advocates who have been affected by hostilities on the territory of Ukraine may submit an application in any format to the email address opekun@unba.org.ua. It is recommended that applicants attach documents and information supporting the facts stated in the application.
