The BCU has launched a digital project «Wall of remembrance and honor»
The Bar Council of Ukraine has adopted a resolution to launch the digital project «Wall of remembrance and honor». To this end, the UNBA is beginning to collect information on advocates and paralegals who lost their lives as a result of the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
The initiative was proposed by the President of the UNBA, BCU Lidiya Izovitova. It was supported by members of the Bar Council of Ukraine during a meeting on August 18.
The project aims to recognize the contributions of advocates and legal assistants who are serving in the military and defending Ukraine, as well as to honor the memory of advocates and legal assistants who died while serving in the military as a result of Russian armed aggression.
The creation of this digital resource is intended to ensure the systematization, documentation, and proper preservation of relevant information. The collected data will also be used to promptly provide information in response to requests from government agencies, the media, and other interested parties.
As L. Izovitova explained, the digital project may include biographies of advocates and legal assistants, information about their achievements, photographs, and materials about their lives as well as recollections from loved ones and colleagues. The digital format will ensure the accessibility of this information and facilitate its long-term preservation.
During the discussion, the Vice President of the UNBA, BCU Oleksiy Kuchar recalled the 2015 book «Advocates and legal professionals — figures of the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen», dedicated to members of the legal profession who became part of the history of Ukrainian statehood. According to him, the advocates who are defending Ukraine today are also shaping the history of the profession and the state.
As part of the implementation of this decision, it is planned to develop and approve regulations governing the digital project. Regional Bar Associations will also be sent a notice regarding the procedure and address for submitting information about deceased colleagues.
Head of the Scientific and Methodological Center for advocacy and legal research of the UNBA Iryna Vasylyk has been appointed to be responsible for collecting, processing and updating information within the framework of the project.
