From law to art: advocates learned to paint in the cubist style

The Ukrainian National Bar Association hosted an online painting workshop for advocates, interns, and legal assistants. For several hours, the advocates were able to set aside their work and take some time for themselves — through art and painting.

The event, titled «Cubism as one of the most famous and influential movements in contemporary art», was organized by the UNBA Committee on humanities and creative initiatives in collaboration with the Center for advocacy and legal research and was led by Committee member Tamila Alexyk.

Participants from Kyiv, as well as the Kyiv, Kherson, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv and Odesa regions attended a short lecture on the origins of Cubism, its founders, its influence on the further development of art, and the artistic movements that emerged from it. Afterward, they received practical guidance on working with materials, learned how to create a sketch, the specifics of applying acrylic paint, and how to work with combinations of colors, light and shadows.

During the workshop, paintings were created that may serve as illustrations for an anthology to be published based on the results of the Second All-Ukrainian Prose Contest for Advocates «In the language of prose». Additionally, the works will have the opportunity to be featured in an art exhibition to be held at the Ukrainian National Bar Association in honor of Lawyers’ Day.

«Such creative initiatives are designed to support advocates’ mental health, foster creativity, and build resilience in today’s challenging conditions, - noted T. Alexyk, - And a painting created with one’s own hands will serve as a lasting reminder of a time when one was able to pause, recharge, and view the world through the lens of art».
