Second German-Ukrainian Forum of Lawyers held in Odessa

The German Federal Chamber of Lawyers (BRAK) and the Ukrainian National Bar Association held a second joint German-Ukrainian Forum of Lawyers.

The event was supported by the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).

Forum’s topics covered the most urgent problems of the Ukrainian Bar. The discussion was opened by the UNBA President Lydia Izovitova, the BRAK Vice-president Ulrich Wessels and Project Manager of the Foundation for International Legal Cooperation Anastasia Moderau.

Participants discussed the particularities of access to justice in Germany and Ukraine and provision of legal aid. Special attention was paid to a process of appointment of legal aid lawyers in criminal proceedings. German experience in these matters was presented by Mr Dagmar Beck-Bever, Chairman of the Committee on lawyers’ fees, Vice-President of the Celle Bar Chamber.
