The defence of the rights of advocates was led by Yevhen Solodko

Yevhen Solodko, lawyer, Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine, has been appointed as the Chair of the Committee on Protection of Advocates' Rights and Guarantees of Legal Practice of the Ukrainian National Bar Association.

The relevant order was signed by the President of UNBA, Lidiya Izovitova, today, 18 September.

Mr Solodko received his law degree from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He began providing legal aid in 1992, while simultaneously engaging in research and teaching at the Law Faculty of the National University of Kyiv. From 1999 to 2004, he headed the Analytical and Legal Department of the State Committee of Ukraine for Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship. Since 2005, he has been practicing criminal law.

Yevhen has been a member of the Committee for the Protection of Advocates' Rights and Guarantees of Practice of Law since its establishment in 2013. Since 2019, he has been the Deputy Chair.

The main purpose of the Committee is to protect the professional and other rights of advocates, to promote the provision of guarantees of the practice of law and the necessary conditions for the effective and efficient performance of their professional duties.

Yevhen Solodko replaced Volodymyr Klochkov, who had been in charge of this area of the UNBA's activities since 2021. During this time, the Committee's representatives conducted 254 investigative visits and processed 249 appeals from colleagues about violations of their professional rights in order to protect the rights of advocates and guarantees of their activities.

«The Committee is entrusted with many tasks, the solution of which requires qualified and prompt immersion in the work of specialists, sometimes 24/7. It is clear that the organisation of this process takes time and effort and distracts from the practice of law. That is why, at the request of Volodymyr, who has a significant professional workload in providing defence in criminal cases, we carried out a rotation», - commented L. Izovitova. – «We are grateful to Mr Klochkov for his perseverance, active position, integrity and responsible approach to work. And we hope that Yevhen Solodko will approve the Committee's informal motto: «Protection of advocates is above all».
