UNBA receives the CCBE award for outstanding and tireless commitment to the protection of human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine

On November 25, 2022, in Brussels, during the CCBE Plenary Session, the Ukrainian National Bar Association received the CCBE Human Rights Award 2022 for its outstanding and tireless commitment to human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine.

The CCBE believes that the UNBA's ongoing commitment to upholding the fundamental values of the profession and the rule of law, especially in times of war, as well as the UNBA's continued support of Ukrainian lawyers and citizens, deserves to be recognized by European bar associations.

The ceremony was opened with a keynote speech by the Chairperson of the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights, Marie Arena, who praised the activities of the Ukrainian National Bar Association as a powerful and modern institution for the protection of human rights in Europe.

The CCBE Human Rights Award was established in 2007. Its main purpose is to honor lawyers or bar organizations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment and sacrifice in upholding the highest values of professional and personal conduct in the field of human rights. The CCBE Human Rights Award was also presented to Ukrainian lawyer Nadiya Volkova for her dedication to human rights protection, both before and during the ongoing martial law in Ukraine, and her ongoing advocacy for justice against human rights violations.
