HELP course on human rights and IHL launched

Today, on September 23, the Council of Europe HELP Program course «International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights» started. The Higher School of Advocacy is a partner of the project launch.

The course consists of 13 modules covering human rights in time of war and the practical nuances of applying public international law, which is designed to protect the basic values of humanity. The participants are judges, prosecutors and lawyers.

One of the four tutors of the course was Iryna Hloviuk, a member of the Board of the Ukrainian National Bar Association's Committee on Criminal Law and Procedure, a lecturer at the Higher School of Advocacy.

Valentyn Gvozdiy, the Vice President of the UNBA, BCU, welcomed the participants and expressed his belief that the participation of such a professional and experienced person as I. Hloviuk would make the presentation of the material interesting and useful. «I am proud that the Higher School of Advocacy participates in the development of HELP courses in Ukraine and acts as a partner in today's event, - said V. Gvozdiy. - We understand the importance of involving attorneys in such educational processes, as it is a unique opportunity to gain important knowledge. This knowledge will allow lawyers not only to keep abreast of international standards, but also to effectively implement them in their practice. We must be prepared for the challenges we face, and this course is one of the important tools to strengthen our capabilities».

He also emphasized that the advocacy, fulfilling its constitutional function of providing professional legal aid, pays very close attention to the issue of raising the professional level of lawyers.

The Council of Europe's HELP program for human rights education for lawyers supports Council of Europe member states in implementing European human rights standards at the national level.
