The Council of Europe sent a special adviser to Ukraine to discuss the Bar reform

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, sent Special Advisor of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on Ukraine, Régis Brillat, to Ukraine to discuss the Bar reform.

This mission despatched to Ukraine in response to UNBA's ressponse to the report of the Council of Europe experts on the results of an assessment of the needs of advacate’s self-government in Ukraine, presented in Kyiv on December 14 2017 and strongly opposed by legal community. UNBA sent a letter to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, along with systematic remarks to this document attached.

In his letter, the Secretary General expressed gratitude to UNBA for drawing attention to the discussion around the expert report and suggestsed to the Lidia Izovitova, President of UNBA to discuss cooperation and exchange of experience with his special adviser during his visit to Kyiv.

A letter from Mr Brillat noted that the topic of conversation will be both the actual report and the general policy of protecting the rights of lawyers and their professional guarantees in Ukraine.

Preliminary, this meeting will be held on February 21.
