Advocacy audience has appeared in Irpin
The State Tax University (Irpin, Kyiv Oblast) has opened a lecture hall named after an advocate, legal scholar and statesman Mykola Vasylenko. The university will also now offer courses on advocacy.
The project was implemented in collaboration with the Ukrainian National Bar Association at the University’s Educational and Research Institute of Law. The lecture hall was inaugurated on May 8.
The named lecture hall at the State Tax University became the 26th such classroom opened with the participation of the Center for advocacy and legal research of the UNBA at institutions of higher education.
For the new educational space, the UNBA funded the production of visual materials prepared by the Center for Research on Advocacy and Law. In particular, the lecture hall features displays on the stages of the formation and development of Ukrainian advocacy.
The Center’s director Iryna Vasylyk presented the educational displays and also donated UNBA publications on the history of advocacy to the university. She also delivered a lecture titled «Advocacy in Ukrainian history: formation and notable figures». I. Vasylyk spoke to students about the historical development of advocacy, rules of professional ethics, and compared approaches to entering the profession in Ukraine and European Union member states.
A master class on the topic «The advocate profession: entry, rights, duties, ethics» was conducted for the students by the chairman of the UNBA NextGen Igor Andreev. He spoke about the start of advocate practice, completing an internship, the professional rights and duties of an advocate, as well as the importance of ethical standards in an advocate’s work.
Following the event, representatives of the UNBA and the State Tax University agreed to introduce a separate course dedicated to Ukrainian advocacy into the curriculum.
As a reminder, this year, on February 15, the 160th anniversary of the birth of Mykola Vasylenko—a scholar, historian, statesman, politician, academician, president of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, member of the Ukrainian Central Council, acting chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian State, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Public Education of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian State — was celebrated at the national level.
