In India, an advocate pretended to be a judge – a criminal case has been opened

In order to enter the courthouse in Ludhiana (India) for a meeting with a judge, advocate Daljit Kaur tried to impersonate a judge. The police have opened a criminal case and are investigating the motives behind her actions.

The incident was reported by the Hindustan Times.

According to the police, Daljit sent a message through the court system stating that she was also a judge. However, after verification, it turned out that she had no connection with the judiciary and was not a civil servant. However, she has a law practice and is registered with the Jalandhar Bar Association (a professional association in the city of Jalandhar, Punjab). Moreover, the woman was preparing for a competition for the position of judge.

A criminal case was opened on the fact of unauthorized assumption of the status of an official by order of a judge. The police registered the case under Section 204 of the Indian Penal Code, which provides for liability for impersonating an official.

The publication also reports that this is not the first case of such impersonation in Ludhiana. In May, the police detained a man who was pretending to be a constable. And in April, a private company driver was arrested there for posing as a police officer on social media.
