Safety starts with skills: advocates undergo firearms training
The advocates practiced safe handling of firearms, shooting from various distances, reloading, and aiming. The training combined three components: personal safety, the ability to maintain control in stressful situations, and support for Ukrainian defenders.
The hands-on training on September 19 was organized by the UNBA Committee on business and investor protection.
Before heading to the firing ranges, participants underwent mandatory safety instruction and mastered the basic rules of marksmanship. Special attention was given to dry-firing — practicing weapon handling without live ammunition. The practical portion covered shooting from various distances, reloading, resolving jams, aiming and trigger control.
All exercises were conducted under the supervision of experienced instructors who are war veterans.
«Of course, our goal was not to turn advocates into soldiers. But we all live in a world where the ability to handle a weapon safely could be necessary for anyone. That’s why it was important for participants not just to try shooting, but to learn how to stay calm and avoid harming either themselves or those around them. Such training, above all, teaches composure and responsibility for every action taken in a critical situation», - noted chairman of the UNBA Committee on business and investor protection Serhiy Khilchenko.
The firearms training continued a series of practical training sessions that the Committee conducts for the legal community. A year ago, advocates learned the basic techniques of combat sambo, and in May of this year, they participated in the «STOP THE BLEED» tactical medicine training, during which they learned how to stop life-threatening bleeding and provide first aid until medical personnel arrive.
The practical outcome of the training extended beyond skills acquired at the shooting range. During the event, participants raised funds to support the Defense Forces carrying out missions in the Sumy region. Fundraising for the military is also part of other initiatives organized by the Committee.
