Citizens of Ukraine who are temporarily staying in Northern Ireland due to the war can make an appointment at the consular offices within the consular district in Edinburgh. They provide services for issuing a passport, registering the birth of a child, extending the validity of a passport and obtaining a travel document for returning to Ukraine.

Andrii Kusliy, Acting Head of the Consulate of Ukraine in Edinburgh, and Yevhen Mankovskyi, Vice Consul of the Consulate of Ukraine in Edinburgh, spoke about the list of services and the procedure for their registration during the webinar. The event was initiated by Oleksandr Chernykh, the representative of the UNBA in Scotland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,.

At the event, representatives of the Consulate explained the difference between renewing a passport and obtaining a new document, the procedure for registering on the Consulate's website in the electronic queue, consular actions that are carried out without an appointment in the live queue, etc.

One of the most frequently asked questions by Ukrainians in Northern Ireland is how to obtain documents for children whose passports have expired, as well as the procedure for registering children. Representatives of the Consulate explained how new passports are issued and what list of documents is required. They noted that in exceptional cases, when there is no time to wait for the passport to be issued and delivered to the consular office, after the start of a full-scale invasion, Ukrainian citizens have the right to extend their passports by putting a special mark.

The Consulate representatives also pointed out that in order to correctly display passports in the Diya application, it is necessary to provide a copy of the individual tax number certificate along with the package of documents.

Consultations on all issues related to the preparation of documents for Ukrainians in Northern Ireland will be available during the on-site consular service in Belfast, which will be held on April 20-21, 2024.

Currently, there are 2300 Ukrainians in Northern Ireland under the special protection program.

This event continued a series of webinars held by the UNBA for Ukrainians who were forced to go abroad in order to ensure the rights of citizens to proper legal assistance, access to reliable information on legal issues, etc. Earlier, the attorneys explained the procedure for issuing passports for Ukrainian citizens residing in the UK.

Advocacy is a responsible entity, not a critic of reform — V. Gvozdiy

The Roadmap on the Rule of Law is not a basis for restructuring the model of advocacy, but a framework for verifying and improving the already European-oriented system. At the same time, part of the work has already been done, so further progress should be made in the form of coordinated and practical decisions.
