As of November 8, 2019 there are 53 262 lawyers in the ranks of the advocacy community of Ukraine. This figure has doubled in the past 5 years. And it is constantly growing.

The statistic of the Register was presented at the meeting of UNBA on November 15, 2019, by the Vice-chairman of UNBA Valentyn Gvozdiy.

Thus, as of the end of 2018 45 thousand lawyers added their data to the electronic database. And in only 10 months in 2019 the advocacy community was replenished with almost 8 thousand people. The largest increase of attorneys was observed in the Kyiv region, the smallest-in Chernihiv. Consistently one-third of the advocacy cohort are women, two thirds-men.

The Unified Register of Advocates of Ukraine (URAU) contains information about the number and personal composition of advocates of Ukraine, the lawyers of foreign countries who have been eligible for advocacy in Ukraine, the organizational forms of advocacy activity of each lawyer.

 It works based on these principles:

  • Availability of information in the URAU is required for the participation of a lawyer in criminal proceedings;
  • Data is stored on dedicated servers with backups;
  • Electronic copies of all documents are stored;
  • There is a two-level principle of introduction and control of information, which eliminates any manipulation and abuse;
  • UNBA conducts trainings for the administrators of URAU.
