In addition to the monthly basic types of remuneration for servicemen, which are the base salary, military rank salary and longevity allowance, there are also additional types. One of them is an increased official salary.

The conditions for its receipt are set out in Section V of the Procedure for the Payment of Remuneration to Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Certain Other Persons, approved by Order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine No. 260 dated 07.06.2018.

The salaries are not increased for all servicemen, but only for servicemen who perform military service in the territories

  • settlements granted the status of mountainous (+25%)
  • Zmeinyi Island (+50%).

Increased salaries are paid on a monthly basis:

  • from the day of enrollment in the lists of military unit personnel until the day of discharge;
  • from the day of arrival at the point of permanent dislocation to the day of departure - in case of arrival (departure) as part of a military unit (subdivision).

At the same time, servicemen who receive increased official salaries, long service allowance, monthly additional types of financial support and one-time additional types of financial support (except for rewards) are paid taking into account the increased salaries.

The material of the section «Defense of the Military» was prepared by Victoria Polishchuk, a member of the Center for Coordination of Volunteer Assistance to Servicemen of the Ukrainian National Bar Association.

BCU: The HCJ’s decisions undermine the constitutional guarantees of the independence of the advocacy profession

The Bar Council of Ukraine has concluded that, in its recent decisions, the High Council of Justice has, without legal grounds, called into question the right of bar self-governing bodies to protect the guarantees of legal practice and has, in effect, attempted to grant one of its members — who retains the status of an advocate — special immunity from the Rules of professional conduct and disciplinary responsibility.

Advocates barred from visiting clients in Temporary detention facility: discussion at the UNBA

The right to legal representation in the first hours following arrest is often rendered meaningless when advocates are denied access to their clients in temporary detention facilities due to bureaucratic barriers, requests for documents not required by the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the practice of detaining people there under the pretext of «security measures».
